A prophecy, as told to environmental activist Joanna Macy by her friend and teacher, Drugu Choegyal Rinpoche:
There comes a time when all life on earth is in danger. In this time, great powers have arisen—barbarian powers; although they waste their wealth in preparations to annihilate each other, they have much in common.
They have weapons of unfathomable death and devastation, and technologies that lay waste to the world. It is in this time, when the future of all life seems to hang by the frailest of threads, that the Kingdom of Shambhala emerges.
You cannot go to the Kingdom of Shambhala, because it is not a place. It exists in the hearts and minds of Shambhala warriors.
Now, the time comes when great courage—moral and physical courage—is required of Shambhala warriors; for they must go right into the very heart of the barbarian power to dismantle the weapon in every sense of the word. They must go where armaments are manufactured and deployed, and also into the corridors of power where decisions are made.
The Shambhala warrior knows that these weapons can be dismantled—they are made by the human mind, and they can be unmade by the human mind. The dangers threatening life on earth are not visited upon us by some extraterrestrial power or satanic deities. They arise from our choices and habits and responses to life. So now is the time when Shambhala warriors go into training.
Join us in training in compassion and insight, two weapons of the Shambhala warrior.
